Grassroot Soccer Training Fellow Selected as a Laureus YES Change Agent

Categories: ALL THE NEWS , Sport
Thabile Nene, Grassroot Soccer Training Fellow – Partnerships, was selected as a Laureus Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES) Change Agent.

She had the opportunity to be a facilitator at their YES training camp held February 8–13 in Cape Town, South Africa. The YES training camp is the official internal mentorship program for the South African foundation. Thabile shares her reflections below.

"My experience at the 2019 Laureus YES camp was amazing and very different from what I am accustomed to at Grassroot Soccer as I had to facilitate sessions on sports for development, leadership, community development, and creating a personal brand. This experience definitely enhanced my facilitation skills. It was great sharing my experience of the program to the YES protégés as I was also one of the beneficiaries in 2017; I could be the support figure that they needed during the camp and also for the rest of the year. Mentoring the leaders is a huge task, and one I am grateful for. I show nothing but gratitude to Laureus for asking me to take on this challenge and also Grassroot Soccer, my organization, for always putting my growth first."

Now That's Classy:
Company Campaign is Making an Assist for Youth

We are fired up to have been chosen by our partner Classy as the beneficiary of their 2019 ClassyGives campaign! Classy is a social enterprise that creates world-class online fundraising software for nonprofits, and Grassroot Soccer (GRS) uses the platform to fuel our online giving.

As a previous Classy Award winner, GRS was selected by staff vote to be this year's campaign beneficiary. The Classy team is currently working hard to make an assist for youth living in challenging circumstances, and we are so grateful for the support!
